Respawn Entertainment recently reversed changes to Apex Legends' battle pass system following significant player dissatisfaction. Earlier in the month, plans were announced to modify the battle royale’s season-long battle pass by splitting it into two separate segments, each featuring 60 levels of rewards instead of the traditional 110. This alteration was set to commence with the launch of Season 22 and continue at the mid-point of the season.

The proposed changes would have also removed players' ability to purchase the battle pass using Apex Coins, which are earned within the game. Instead, players would have had to spend real money, priced at $9.99 / £8.99 per segment. Additionally, a $19.99 / £17.99 Premium+ track was to be introduced, replacing the premium bundle previously available.

The community's response was swift and unfavorable, resulting in Apex Legends being subjected to a review bombardment on Steam, tallying over 81,659 negative reviews at the time. In reaction to this, Respawn decided to revert to the original system.

Responding to the feedback, Respawn announced on X / Twitter that it would reintroduce the option to buy the Premium Battle Pass for 950 Apex Coins with the start of Season 22. The studio admitted that they mishandled the changes and expressed their intent to improve both the value and experience of the battle pass offerings.

With the release set for August 6, the new system will provide players an opportunity to unlock the Premium Battle Pass by completing straightforward in-game challenges. When the second segment of the battle pass launches on September 17, players will be able to acquire Premium Battle Passes using 950 Apex Coins, as was previously customary.

The update will also revamp the Battle Pass options to include better rewards and quicker completion through the new challenges, which will now contain only 60 levels. Respawn emphasized the need for improved timeliness, transparency, and consistency in their communications, prioritizing issues such as cheaters, game stability, and quality of life improvements.
