The gaming industry is often unpredictable, with titles sometimes facing challenges that lead to their untimely demise. A recent announcement highlights such a situation involving Spectre Divide and its developer, Mountaintop Studios.
The free-to-play multiplayer shooter Spectre Divide is set to conclude operations, alongside the shutting down of its creator, Mountaintop Studios. This game, known for its engaging 3v3 tactical gameplay and vibrant environments, was launched in September 2024.
Just two weeks after the debut of its first season, Mountaintop Studios has communicated the difficult decision to cease development. The studio expressed enthusiasm during the initial launch week, reporting approximately 400,000 players engaged, with a peak of around 10,000 concurrent users across various platforms. However, as time progressed, unfortunately, the studio noted a decrease in active players and insufficient revenue to maintain the daily expenses of both the game and the studio.
As the studio stated, since the PC launch, they had stretched their remaining finances to their limits, but the funding needed to continue supporting the game has run out. Consequently, Mountaintop Studios disclosed its decision to cease all activities by the end of this week.
In preparation for this closure, the game has already begun the process of removing new purchases from its in-game store, with plans to completely discontinue the game within the next 30 days. Mountaintop Studios expressed gratitude to the community that Spectre Divide fostered, describing this announcement as a challenging and sorrowful moment for all involved.
