Henry Cavill is set to expand his portfolio with an exciting new role in an upcoming project. The actor known for his portrayals in high-profile productions, is confirmed to be part of Amazon's live-action adaptation of Voltron. This news emerged from a report published on Thursday, detailing his collaboration with newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who has garnered attention for his impressive performance as an understudy in a recent West End production of Romeo & Juliet. Helming the project is Rawson Marshall Thurber, a filmmaker recognized for his work on Netflix's Red Notice and the action-packed film featuring Dwayne Johnson, Skyscraper.

Thurber will also contribute to the script alongside Ellen Shanman. Specifics on the plot and details regarding Cavill's character remain closely guarded at this time. The original animated series depicted a team of space explorers whose individual vehicles merged to create the formidable robot known as Voltron. While the 1980s anime, derived from the Japanese series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, spawned several animated sequels and a reboot on Netflix in 2016, this upcoming film signifies the first time audiences will witness a live-action version of Voltron. Cavill’s involvement in this project adds to a lineup of high-stakes roles he has taken on recently, remaining highly active even after departing from Netflix's The Witcher.

This year alone, he has featured in two action films — Argyle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — and he is preparing to lead a Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame, scheduled for release in 2026. Cavill initially gained widespread recognition for his role as Superman in Zack Snyder's DCEU endeavors and also appeared in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Details about the release date and further information regarding the live-action Voltron film are yet to be revealed. For the time being, there are ongoing discussions about the various live-action adaptations of anime currently in development.
