Fans of Total War have been expressing discontent with Creative Assembly for several months. The release of the latest DLC for Total War: Warhammer III met with harsh criticism, resulting in a wave of negative reviews, while Total War: Pharaoh fell short of what many hoped for from the franchise's next installment in the historical genre.
Nonetheless, Roger Collum, the Vice President of Creative Assembly, recently made a statement addressing the fanbase, offering an apology and a hopeful outlook for the future of Total War. "We have faced tough times lately, and it's undeniable that we have stumbled in maintaining a strong connection with our community," the message reads. "We have been intensely deliberating on ways to return to a state of equilibrium. Clearly, this road to recovery will be challenging, necessitating time and dedication."
"Seeing the palpable bewilderment, vexation, and doubt directed at us by members of our community genuinely saddens us. Our intent is to create games that bring excitement and promote a passion for history, fantasy, and strategy gaming. Total War is our passion project, and our commitment to it is as fervent as yours. It is evident, however, that we've not successfully conveyed this sentiment through our recent actions. For this, we extend our sincerest apologies."
In an effort towards reconciliation, some significant measures are being implemented. Regarding Total War: Warhammer III, those who purchased the Shadows of Change DLC can anticipate receiving free extra content in the upcoming year, intended to offset the original cost of the DLC.
Furthermore, discussions about pricing have led to a decrease in cost for Total War: Pharaoh, with the elimination of the pricier versions of the game. The new price is set at $39.99/€39.99/£29.99, and those who have already purchased the game at the previous price will be eligible for a partial refund.
